MINDY McCREADY’S FUNERAL PLANNED

Mindy McCreadyNASHVILLE (AP) — Mindy McCready will be laid to rest tomorrow. Her funeral is set for her hometown of Fort Myers, Florida, tomorrow. A memorial service for family and friends in Nashville is planned for March 6. McCready died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound a week ago.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


ADELE, SETH MACFARLANE UP FOR BEST SONG OSCAR

oscars-seth-macfarlane_510x411LOS ANGELES (AP) — Will Adele be the juggernaut at the Oscars that she has been in the rest of the music business? The theme song from “Skyfall” is nominated for the best song Oscar, and because she co-wrote it, she’s eligible to win an Oscar.

Her competition includes Oscar host Seth MacFarlane, who wrote “Everybody Needs A Best Friend” from “Ted.” The other nominees are “Before My Time” from the documentary “Chasing Ice,” ”Pi’s Lullaby” from “Life of Pi,” and “Suddenly” from “Les Miserables.” The Oscars are Sunday.

Lady GagaUNDATED (AP) — Lady Gaga has come out of surgery feeling grateful. She posted on her blog Wednesday she had hip surgery and it “happened so fast.” She had to call off her tour because her hip pain was too great.

Lady Gaga thanks her fans for their stories of support. She says as she was being wheeled into surgery she thought about her fans’ pain and perseverance.

She told fans the surgery is “just a bump in the road” and if they can make it through their pain, so can she.

On February 22nd, 1934, the comedy “It Happened One Night,” starring Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert, opened in New York.

In 1964, The Beatles arrived in London following their first visit to the U.S.

In 1976, original Supremes member Florence Ballard died in Detroit of coronary thrombosis at age 32. Ballard and her children were living on welfare at the time of her death.

In 1978, The Police starred in a TV commercial for Wrigley’s chewing gum. The ad was made a few months before the band’s single “Roxanne” was released in the UK.

In 1989, the first heavy metal Grammy was given out. Jethro Tull won.

In 1990, a jury in Los Angeles rejected a claim that Stevie Wonder’s hit “I Just Called To Say I Love You” was stolen from another songwriter.

In 1993, CBS announced that the network had purchased the Ed Sullivan Theatre in New York for David Letterman’s new TV show. At that point, Letterman was rumored to be moving his program to Los Angeles.

“SCARY SPICE” TO JOIN EQUALLY TERRIFYING HOWIE MANDEL AND HOWARD STERN ON “TALENT”

LOS ANGELES (AP) – Scary Spice will be the new judge on “America’s Got Talent.” Spice Girl Melanie Brown will join Howard Stern and Howie Mandel on the judges’ panel. She replaces Sharon Osbourne, who quit the show in August over a dispute with NBC. Osbourne had claimed NBC fired her son, Jack, from its show “Stars Earn Stripes” after he was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. NBC denies that. “America’s Got Talent” is accepting submissions for this summer’s season at www.agtauditions.com .

‘ARGO’ THE ONE TO BEAT FOR ‘BEST PICTURE’ OSCAR

LOS ANGELES (AP) – “Argo” has been picking up steam the past several weeks and is expected to ride the wave to a win for Best Picture at the Oscars this Sunday. If it does, Ben Affleck would win an Oscar for producing the film, making up for his snub for Best Director. Daniel Day-Lewis seems to be a lock for Best Actor. If he wins, he’ll be the first to win Best Actor three times. His director in “Lincoln” Steven Spielberg is also expected to win his third Oscar. Anne Hathaway’s a shoo-in for Best Supporting Actress and Jennifer Lawrence looks like she’ll be named Best Actress.

BEVERLY HILLS (AP) – Kristen Stewart will be at the Oscars. She’ll be a presenter. Kerry Washington, Jennifer Garner and Jane Fonda have also been added to the list of presenters.

LOS ANGELES (AP) – Best Picture nominee “Zero Dark Thirty” comes out on Blu-Ray and DVD March 19. The extras show how they recreated the place where Osama bin Laden was hiding. There’s also a walking tour of the recreated compound. Another feature focuses on the training the cast and crew needed to film the raid.
