KESHA IS TRUE TO HER HUMBLE BEGINNINGS

B947_Ke$ha

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Kesha says she’d rather throw terrible house parties with vodka out of plastic bottles than go to VIP clubs. Kesha grew up on welfare and says now that she has some money, she hasn’t changed her attitude much.

She says how much something costs or who designed it isn’t important to her. She says she “still loves being kind of scummy.”

WASHINGTON (AP) – Kelly Clarkson says it’s the coolest photo she’s ever been in: a photo of her shaking hands with President Barack Obama after she sang at his inauguration. It’s the picture of Clarkson with another president that’s taken fire on the Internet: Bill Clinton. He photobombed her as she sang “My Country ‘Tis Of Thee.” The photo shows Clinton peeking around the person in front of him so he could see Clarkson.

LIP SYNC OR NO LIP SYNC? BEYONCE’S LIPS ARE SEALED

beyonce_anthem_inauguration

WASHINGTON (AP) – Did Beyonce’ lip-sync the national anthem at the inauguration, or didn’t she? A spokeswoman for the Marine Band initially said Beyonce’ did, but now the U.S. Marine Corps says no one in the band is in a position to say for sure. A Marine Corps spokesman says there was no opportunity for Beyonce’ to rehearse with the Marine Band. He confirms the band did not perform live. All the music for the inauguration was recorded in advance in case of a problem. Kelly Clarkson’s representative says Clarkson sang live for “My Country ‘Tis Of Thee.” Beyonce’s representative has not responded to requests for comment.

HEY…’MEMBER MYSPACE? NO? JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE IS WORKING ON THAT

The newly designed MySpace.

NEW YORK (AP) – Social network Myspace got a makeover and Internet users got their first look yesterday. The new site launched with the help of Justin Timberlake, who contributed his new single “Suit & Tie” featuring Jay-Z to the homepage.

Timberlake, along with a group of other investors, also contributed financial backing. They bought MySpace last summer for $35 million, hoping to re-invent the entertainment-focused site.

TONIGHT ON TV: NEW JUDGES, SAME ‘IDOL’

(AP) – The disbelieving looks on the judges’ faces can mean only one thing: It’s the start of auditions on “American Idol.” Tonight’s singers are from the Chicago tryouts. As usual, many of them are ear-splitting, but there are some good ones sprinkled in. Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban are hearing this year’s versions of William Hung for the first time. This is the 12th season Randy Jackson has suffered through the early auditions.

Nicki Minaj used to think it was “so stupid” when she’d see Jennifer Lopez and other judges cry on “American Idol.” She says she thought they should “get a life.” But now that she’s cried as a judge, Minaj says she takes it all back. She says “When you’re looking into someone’s eyes and they gave their all and you know their journey ends here, it’s a tough pill to swallow.” Producers are hoping Minaj, Mariah Carey and Keith Urban will help the show bounce back from their lowest-rated season since 2002. They’re being paid $36 million dollars to deliver. If they don’t, they could end up like Britney Spears, who was paid a reported $15 million to goose the ratings of “The X Factor,” which went down instead. She was bounced after just one season.

COLTON DIXON: IDOL IS “INSANE”

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) – Colton Dixon says the new crop of contestants on “American Idol” have no idea what they’re getting into.

Dixon says viewers never see how much work it takes to compete on the show. He says he put in “two or three years’ amount of work in two or three months.” Dixon says a typical day lasts 12-to-14 hours, “every day, non-stop.” He says “you barely have enough time to sleep let alone eat.” Dixon says “it’s just insane.”

Season 12 starts tomorrow.

IT’S OFFICIAL: BRITNEY (AND L.A. REID) OUT AT “X FACTOR”

LOS ANGELES (AP) – Britney Spears confirms that she’s leaving “The X Factor” after only one season. She says it was a “difficult decision.” She says she had a great time, but she wants to get back into the studio to record. Spears was paid a reported $15 million with the hope that she’d help boost the ratings. But they went down instead. L.A. Reid had said earlier that he was also leaving. Demi Lovato is expected to return along with Simon Cowell and the new judges.

BYE BYE BRITNEY? “X FACTOR” MENTOR REPORTEDLY GETTING THE BOOT

LOS ANGELES (AP) – It looks like Britney Spears is out as mentor on “The X Factor.” A person familiar with plans for the show tells The Associated Press producers discussed replacing Spears over the holidays. The source says Simon Cowell and the producers also discussed a replacement for L.A. Reid, who already has said he’s leaving the show. “The X Factor” seems to have trouble in coming up with the right mix of mentors. Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger were mentors in the first season but were dismissed in favor of Spears and Demi Lovato. Ratings for the past season of “The X Factor” have been down compared to its first season. It appears Lovato will return.
