LOS ANGELES (AP) – “The Voice” returns for a new season tonight with two new coaches. Shakira and Usher replace Cee Lo Green and Christina Aguilera who are concentrating of their music careers during this season. Blake Shelton and Adam Levine are back. Shelton tells People magazine that the new judges “came out swinging.” He says this season “the fight will be every bit as good as it was before.” He says “there are a lot of jabs that get thrown around.”
LOS ANGELES (AP) – Johnny Depp and Kristen Stewart are the big winners at the Kids Choice Awards. Depp wins as favorite movie actor. Stewart takes favorite movie actress and female butt-kicker.
For the most part, they also avoided getting hit with the trademark green slime. Neil Patrick Harris waved a wand and got himself and Sandra Bullock slimed.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson picks up the trophy for male butt-kicker. He blasted a sumo-suited Nick Cannon and host Josh Duhamel with the green goo.
LOS ANGELES (AP) – It’s a first place opening for the “The Croods” — with nearly 45 million dollars. Nicolas Cage and Emma Stone lend their voices to the animated, 3-D comedy. The caveman comedy is about the only game in town — as kids head into their spring break and parents look for a movie for the whole family. The action thriller “Olympus Has Fallen” opens in a strong second. “Oz the Great and Powerful” is third this weekend. “The Call” placed fourth, followed by the opening of Tina Fey’s new comedy “Admission.”

NEW YORK (AP) – Lady Gaga’s manager says she’s recovering nicely from hip surgery a month ago. Vincent Herbert says Lady Gaga is “doing unbelievable.” He says she’s ready to get back to work on new album, “ARTPOP.” Herbert calls the album “very, very refreshing” and says Lady Gaga continues to push the envelope.
LOS ANGELES (AP) – The latest argument for music education: several “American Idol” contestants weren’t familiar with The Beatles. Burnell Taylor didn’t know “Let It Be” before he performed it on last night’s show. Amber Holcomb had never heard “She’s Leaving Home” before she sang it. Lazaro Arbos says he had to learn “In My Life” at the last minute because of a song switch. The judges reduced Arbos to tears, and the show came back from commercial with Ryan Seacrest asking the judges to justify that. They weren’t so hard on everybody, though. They loved Angie Miller’s rendition of “Yesterday” and Janelle Arthur’s version of “I Will.” Mariah Carey called Kree Harrison’s performance of “With A Little Help From My Friends” “fan-freakin’-tastic.”
WASHINGTON (AP) – Decades from now, people will still be able to do “The Twist” and disco dancing thanks to the Library of Congress. It’s added “The Twist” and the “Saturday Night Fever” soundtrack to the National Recording Registry, which preserves sound recordings of cultural or historic importance. The Ramones’ 1976 self-titled album makes it as well. So does Pink Floyd’s “Dark Side of the Moon,” “Cheap Thrills” by Big Brother and the Holding Company, and Simon and Garfunkel’s “The Sounds of Silence.”

LOS ANGELES (AP) – The Disney kid is getting grown-up scores on “Dancing With the Stars.” At 16, Zendaya is the youngest contestant ever on the show. But she starts the new season at the top. Bruno Tonioli says Zendaya had a sweet-16, “superb” debut. But D.L. Hughley is at the other end of the scale. He scored just 12 points with his cha cha, the lowest of the night. Hughley jokes it’s not the worst thing he’s ever heard from a judge. But he and the others don’t have to worry about being sent home this week. There will be no elimination tonight. Instead, “Dancing With the Stars” will show more video from the rehearsals.
