“The best part of being an Eagle? The culture and my teammates.” 4 Downs with Chadron State senior Jake Geil

Next week all the seriousness of X’s and O’s will begin when fall football camp opens at Chadron State.  With a few days left of “summer” for the guys at the RMAC Kickoff in Colorado Springs we wanted to have a little fun with Jake Geil, Tyler Lewis, Kyle Temple and Coach Jay Long.  So, we went “4 Downs” with each of them to learn a little more about their personalities and thoughts on some fun topics.

4 Downs with Chadron State senior center Jake Geil

  • 1st Down: Is there an offensive line unit or some offensive linemen in the NFL you look up to and study?

Jake: “A couple guys I look up to is Jason Kelce, he plays for the Eagles. He’s kind of an undersized offensive lineman, but he works really hard, he’s really fast and he’s tough.  Another guy: Quenton Nelson, he played at Notre Dame and he’s now with the Colts. He’s a real mean dude, he gets after it on the field. Ryan Jensen from Pueblo, he’s a really good center and Travis Frederick from the Dallas Cowboys.”

  • 2nd Down: The game you’re looking forward to most this year?

Jake:  “Right now I’m just looking forward to Black Hills.  I gotta take it one by one. It’s the first game in the new stadium and it’s a little bit of a rivalry game so I always look forward to that one.”

  • 3rd Down: Your brother Joey is going to be a freshman. You’ve got to be looking forward to going against him in practice and bringing him along learning the Eagle Way.

Jake: “Yea I’m definitely excited for that. I was really excited when he decided to become an Eagle.  You know obviously me playing here and understanding what the culture is I was leaning towards that a little bit more than others maybe.  I’m definitely excited to get after it a little bit, rough him up, but he’s a great football player and he’s a great athlete and I know he’s going to do great things here and he’s excited about coming up as well.”

  • 4th Down: What are some of your favorite parts about being a Chadron State Eagle? What’s been so wonderful about being a part of Chadron State’s program and the school?

Jake: “The biggest thing for me is just being an Eagle and being with my teammates.  It’s a hard thing to explain, but there’s not too many of my senior class left but those guys are all my best friends. That’s the biggest thing to me, the camaraderie that we have, the culture that we have, the hard practices, things like that.  When you’re in it they’re not so fun but when you get done and you’re sitting there with the guys that’s the best part of being an Eagle for me, the culture and my teammates.”
