Tecumseh State prison inmate dies at Lincoln hospital

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — An inmate in the Tecumseh State Correctional Institution has died at a Lincoln hospital.

Prison officials say in a news release that 57-year-old Gage Capone died early Tuesday morning at Bryan Medical Center-West. Capone had begun serving a 35- to 57-year sentence in 2017 after being convicted in Lancaster County of making terroristic threats. He was sentenced as a habitual criminal.

A prison spokeswoman would not say how long Capone had been at the hospital, citing an inmate privacy policy. The news release said Capone’s cause of his death has not been determined.

State law requires a grand jury investigation any time a person dies in state custody.
