OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — An Omaha tax preparer has been ordered to repay $31,404 and serve five years of probation for filing false returns.
The U.S. Attorney’s office says 38-year-old Opal Harris was sentenced Monday for intentionally preparing false returns.
Harris had worked at Wise Tax Solutions, which she owned with her husband.
Prosecutors say Harris falsified returns between 2012 and 2015 to help people qualify for the earned income tax credit, which led to improper refunds.
