NEW YORK (AP) – Sting will put out his first album of original material in 10 years. The New York Times reports the songs for “The Last Ship” are the framework for a musical Sting is composing about a shipyard in England in the 1980s. Some of the songs will be used in the musical, and some are songs Sting wrote but decided not to use. “The Last Ship” will come out September 24. His last album of new material was 2003’s “Sacred Love.” Since then he’s also released a symphonic album, a holiday record and an album of Renaissance songs.
