Chadron State Spring Game Comes Down to Final Seconds, 4 QB’s Get a Chance to Prove They’re “The Guy”

Under a beautiful Saturday sky and in front of fans eager for college football the Chadron State Eagles played its 2015 spring game down to the wire.
Scoring was at a premium and the quarterback battle between four players is still far from settled. Sophomore Matt Vinson hit Colton Wright with an 8-yard touchdown pass near the end of the first quarter for a 7-0 White lead, which carried through to halftime. Senior Chris Conroy tossed a third quarter touchdown to Jack Dobyns making the score 16-4. And yes, that’s correct – in between quarters special teams competitions were held and each team could add on to its point total.
The Cardinal side nearly came back to win it late with redshirt freshman TD Stein tossing a touchdown pass to Matt Reader with just 32 seconds left and then a sneaky onside kick gave the Cardinal a chance to win but couldn’t get anything more on the board and the final ended at 18-16 White.
The teams were chosen through a draft system and Coach Jay Long says the quarterback competition for who’s going to be named the starter this fall is far from over, and that showed as the teams were put together.

Competing for the QB role with Stein and Vinson are senior Chris Conroy and sophomore Justyn Curtis. All four quarterbacks played in the rotation Saturday.
