Sparked by Karissa Moreland’s round of 77, the Chadron State College women’s golf team leapt Colorado Christian to finish eighth with a two-day total of 691 at the Grizzly Invitational at Cattails Golf Course in Alamosa, Colo., Monday afternoon.
The Eagles were in ninth following the first round but shot a 343 to move past Colorado Christian in the team race.
Moreland fired an 81 during Sunday’s first round but she bettered that with a 77 on Monday to finish in a tie for ninth place.
Colorado State University-Pueblo won the team title with a 36-hole, 2-day total of 617.
CSU-Pueblo’s Michaela Breit won the individual title on the first hole of a playoff against her teammate Julie Sanchez. Both posted 2-day totals of 150.
Breit made a birdie putt of approximately 20 feet on the first playoff hole.
Western New Mexico’s Faylyn Beyale took third with a 2-day score of 154 and led her team to a second place finish in the team standings at 628.
In addition to Moreland, three other Eagles finished in the top 40. Emilee Pilkington shot a 172, Darcy Vernon shot 179 and Emma Harris shot 182.
The Eagles will be back in action Monday, Sept. 24 at Regis.
