Eagles Fight Back for Victory in Game Two of Softball Doubleheader

The Chadron State College softball team rallied back from being down by four runs to defeat Colorado Mesa University, 6-5, Friday afternoon.

The Eagles, who are hosting a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference triangular with Metro State University of Denver and Colorado Mesa University, fell to MSU-Denver 5-1 in the first game of the day. Metro State also defeated Colorado Mesa 6-3 in extra innings.

The Eagles open play tomorrow against the Mavericks at 10 a.m., followed by Metro State and Colorado Mesa at noon and CSC against MSU-Denver at 2 p.m.

During Friday’s final game, the Eagles scored three runs in the fifth and two runs in the sixth over the second-ranked team in the RMAC, Colorado Mesa University. Mesa took an early 2-0 lead by means of an RBI single by Zoe Pakes and a walk with loaded bases. The Eagles responded in the second inning with a sacrifice fly ball by Katelyn Kruger to bring Jessica Eatmon home.

The Mavericks pushed their lead in the third inning by scoring three runs off of Pakes’ two-run home run and Nicole Robinson singling down the middle for an RBI.

Eatmon, who was a perfect four for four with two runs and two RBIs, slammed a two-run homer to bring the Eagles within 5-3. With two outs, Zoe Humphries hit a solo home run and CSC trailed 5-4. The rally would continue into the sixth, as three straight Eagles reached and two scored because of Mesa fielding errors.

Tayler Hall earned her 10th win of the season, striking out seven batters en route to the win.

The Eagles struggle to find their offense in game one. Kruger had an RBI single to drive home Eatmon for the lone score.
