DELORA JEAN BANNAN, 90

Delora Jean Bannan of Chadron passed away on February 15, 2013 at her home at the age of 90 surrounded by family.
 
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 19 at 11:00 AM at the Chamberlain Chapel in Chadron with Pastor Ann Sundberg officiating.  Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Chadron.
 
Delora was born in Rushville, Nebraska to Jay and Dorothea Preble.  At the age of 13, Delora became a mother to her younger siblings due to the untimely death of her mother.  Delora graduated from high school in Hay Springs, Nebraska and worked at the telephone office in Crawford which helped provide income for the family.  Delora was introduced to Robert Bannan at a USO dance at Ft. Robinson in 1944.  They were married in 1945 and to their union, five children were born. 
 
Delora and Bob lived and worked on a ranch in rural Sioux County. They moved to Chadron, Nebraska in 1961. Delora began her college education at Chadron State College and earned her degree while raising her children and being employed.
 
Delora was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.  She enjoyed many years of fellowship with her Bible study groups, her participation in various card clubs, and her volunteer work for the American Legion Auxiliary and Chadron Senior Center.
 
Delora was preceded in death by her husband Robert in July 2005.  Left to treasure and cherish her memory are her children; Donna (Howard) Pierce of Cheyenne, WY, Mary Bannan (Royce Hardin) of Lantana, Texas, Bob Bannan of Hickory Creek, Texas, Tom Bannan (Vana) of Chadron, Nebraska and Bill Bannan (Vicki) of Cheyenne, Wyoming. Delora was the proud grandparent of eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.  Delora is also survived by her sister, Donna (Wayne) Woodcock of Lees Summit, MO, and her brother-in-law Dick (Marjorie) Bannon of San Antonio, TX.
 
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established for American Legion Auxiliary Post 12. Donations may be sent to Chamberlain Chapel, PO Box 970, Chadron, NE, 69337.
