CSC TRACK TEAM STRONG AT CONCORDIA MEET

CSC track - sprintSEWARD, Neb. –The Chadron State track and field team turned in strong performances Friday at the Concordia Indoor Track and Field Meet in Seward, which drew  a dozen schools from a four-state area.

CSC came up with a trio of second-place finishes, two from men’s sprinters Alex Graham and Dean Frances and one from women’s pole vaulter Kaelie Jelden.

Graham was 2nd among the 47 entries in the 60-meter dash in 6.77 seconds to match his season best, while Frances was runner-up in the 38 man field for the 200 meters in 22.23, just a trifle slower than his season-best of 22.17.  Jelden cleared 10-11 after setting the school record of 11-7 ¾ the previous week.

The Eagles’ 4×400-meter relay team was 3rd with a season-best 3:23.21, while Charith Kapukotuwa was 5th in the 35-pound weight and 6th in the shot put…the latter in a career-best 54-1/2Lanar Newman  was 4th in the triple jump at 46-2 ¾, his season best by two feet, and 6th in the long jump at 22-7. Pole vaulters Kolten Jelden and Skyler Hoopes  each cleared 15-1, but Jelden had fewer misses and finished 4th while Hoopes was 8th among the more than competitors.

For the women, Alyssa Norton was 4th in the weight throw with a career-best 54-11 ¾ while 2 sophomores had career bests while finishing 6th in the middle distances. Shelby Guy ran the 800 in 2:26.63 and Rebecca Volf the mile in 5:59.70.

Also for the Lady Eagles, Shelby Bozner came off the injury list to place 4th in the high hurdles and senior Trae Patch was 7th in the 200.
