CSC SOFTBALL SPLITS SAT DH AT PUEBLO

CHADRON – The Chadron State College softball team rebounded from a tough loss to earn an 8-0 victory in five innings to upend Colorado State University-Pueblo Saturday at Rawlings Complex.

With the win, Chadron State evens its Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference record to 2-2. The Eagles are also 3-6 on the season and will host the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs next weekend in a four-game series.

The Eagles jumped on the ThunderWolves (5-4, 2-2 RMAC) early in the second game by scoring four runs in the top of the first. Amy Schartz started the scoring flurry with an RBI single to score Sarah Knudsen and Rebecca Wetsch drove in three more runs after hitting a home run.

Jessica Eatmon provided two more runs for the Eagles in the top of the third when she hit a 2-run homer and Taylor Cobb singled two innings later to plate Wetsch, who went 3-for-3, and Knudsen to put the game away.

Kylee Polsley tossed a one-hitter in the Eagles’ victory. She struck out three more and allowed just one walk.

In the first game, Chadron State scored two runs in the top of the sixth inning to tie things up at 3-3 but Pueblo scratched a run across with one out in the bottom of the seventh to win, 4-3.

In the loss, Aryn Grywusiewicz allowed just four hits and struck out five.

Shea Graham paced the offense by going 2-for-3 and knocked in a run. Katie Londo, Schartz and Ashlynn Marino each added singles.

Also for Chadron State, Wetsch and Sarah Knudsen drew two walks and Nikki Ritzen stole a base.
