CSC ENDS FB SIGNING DAY WITH 40

CSC Eagles Logo _ Sports 2012Wednesday was college football signing day, when high school seniors sign binding letters of intent to attend a specific school.   Chadron State had 40 student-athlete signees…31 in the morning, 6 by 4:00 in the afternoon, and 3 more by 8:30 pm.

Head Coach Jay Long is pleased with his first recruiting class…calling it  a great group of student-athletes, some of whom will contribute right away and others will be developed. A CSC graduate and former player who took over the program last year, Long says Chadron State is a great place dedicated to giving opportunities.

He says the whole school…coaches, players, faculty, and staff…worked extremely hard to show potential recruits that Chadron State is a great place to be, with the football program’s success and tradition making student-athletes want to be there.

The 40 recruits are spread evenly on offense and defense. Eighteen are targeted to be defensive players, 18 to be featured on offense, and two as kickers.

Thirteen of the signees are from Nebraska, including 5 from the Panhandle: Colin Deines and Matt Lordino of Chadron and Ty Dunkel, Matt Klein and Randy Wentz of Scottsbluff.

The other Nebraskans are Chance Bauman and Matt Fujan of Beatrice, Mitch Collicott of McCook, Tanner Martin of Grand Island, Tyler Dahlgren of Bertrand, Austin Powell of Lincoln, Creighton Reed of Hastings and Justin Hollman of Crete.

Tanner Wintholz of Sidney was scheduled for an afternoon signing ceremony at Sidney High, but Chadron State releases names only when it has received and processed all the paperwork from a recruit.

Nine signees come from Colorado, including 3 sets of high school teammates: Derek Jackson and Diego Rojas of Pueblo West, Sean Watkins and Josh Johnson of Eaglecrest and Chris Sweeney and Tyler Kiess of Thompson Valley. The others are Baron Coffelt of Castle Rock, Garret Walker of Wiggins and Connor Conilogue of Erie.

Wyoming is sending 5 recruits to CSC…Collin Eisenman of Sheridan, Aaron Fenner of Buffalo, Charles Allen of Douglas, Colton Wright of Burns and Tod Wenger of Cheyenne.

Texas and California each have 4 members of the recruiting class. The Texans are Andrew Kaluza of Aquilla, Brewer Newton of Spring, Lucas Ley of Kingwood and Trace Oswald of Houston, while the Californians are Chris Mayes of Winters, Tevin Malone of San Diego, Kyle Gordon of Villa Park and Ryan Staas.

Two recruits come from Minnesota…Kyle Chrastek of Fridley and Kyle Fatturi of Lakeville…with 3 states sending one each…Taquan Kelly of Merritt, Fla., Justyn Curtis of Richmond, Ind., and Andrew Campbell of Shawnee, Kan.
