CHADRON WOMAN ARRESTED FOR ILLEGALLY TRYING TO GET AMBIEN

AmbienA Chadron woman has been arrested for allegedly trying to illegally obtain the prescription drug Ambien,  a Schedule IV sedative used for the short-term treatment of insomnia.  40-year old Alyssa Eide was arrested Thursday and remains in custody.

Chadron Police Chief Tim Lordino says an investigation began after Eide called in a prescription to a local pharmacy using a false name and a doctor’s Drug Enforcement Administration’s number.

Investigators then discovered that Eide had been been using multiple doctors to prescribe Ambien for her, and that she’d filled the prescriptions at pharmacies all across the Panhandle

She was arrested Alyssa Eide for violating a part of state statute that makes it illegal to knowingly or intentionally obtain or attempt to obtain possession of a controlled substance by theft, misrepresentation, fraud, forgery, deception, or subterfuge.

The WING/HIDTA Drug and Violent Crime Task force, which is partially funded through a grant by the Nebraska Crime Commission, assisted the Chadron police in the case.

Schedule IV drugs are not normally the subject of drug cases. They’re described by the DEA as substances, or chemicals with a low potential for abuse and low risk of dependence.
