JUSTIN BIEBER: TARGET OF MURDER PLOT

ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico (AP) — An inmate in a New Mexico prison has revealed to investigators he launched a plot to kill Justin Bieber. Dana Martin told authorities he persuaded a man he met in prison and the man’s nephew to kill Bieber and Bieber’s bodyguard.

The plot included castrating and killing two people not connected to the singer. No one has been hurt. Martin is serving two life sentences for the killing of a 15-year-old girl in 2000. He was angry at Bieber for not responding to his letters.

Investigators say Mark Staake and Tanner D. Ruane were in on the plot and on their way to a Bieber concert in New York when they took a wrong turn, crossed into Canada and Staake was arrested on an outstanding warrant. Ruane was arrested later.

ADELE’S BOND THEME AMONG LIKELY “BEST SONG” OSCAR NOMINEES

BEVERLY HILLS (AP) – Adele could win an Oscar for her song “Skyfall.” It’s one of 75 songs competing for an Oscar nomination. Another possible nominee is “One Wing,” the song R. Kelly wrote for Jordin Sparks to sing in “Sparkle.” Katy Perry’s song “Wide Awake” from her movie “Part of Me” is eligible. None of the famous songs from “Les Miz” are in competition because they’re not new. But the song “Suddenly” that was written just for the movie is in the mix. The five songs with the most votes will be nominated.

PSY: “SORRY ABOUT ALL THAT STUFF I SAID ABOUT KILLING AMERICANS. WE’RE COOL, RIGHT?”

UNDATED (AP) – Looks like PSY was biting the hand that feeds him – even before it started feeding him.

The South Korean rapper who became an Internet sensation with his song “Gangnam Style” now says he’s sorry for taking part in anti-U.S. protests several years ago. Park Jae-sang came out with a statement of regret after it was revealed he was involved in concerts protesting the U.S. military presence in South Korea in the early stages of the Iraq war.

At a concert in 2004, the rapper performs a song with lyrics about killing “Yankees” including the lyrics: “Kill their daughters, mothers, daughters-in-law, and fathers/Kill them all slowly and painfully.”PSY now says he’s “deeply sorry” and that his language was “inappropriate.”

PSY attended college in the U.S. and has even performed in front American servicemen and women.

BIEBER: “ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS IS A GRAMMY NOMINATION!” GRAMMYS: “HERE, HAVE SOME COAL.”

UNDATED (AP) – Justin Bieber must be thinking that the Recording Academy just doesn’t like him. He didn’t get a single Grammy nomination.

His manager, Scooter Braun, went off about that on Twitter, saying the Grammys “blew it on this one.” Braun argues Bieber released a successful album with “Believe” and had a sold-out tour this year. Bieber also was the big winner just a few weeks ago at the American Music Awards.

Bieber was considered a shoo-in to win the Best New Artist Grammy in 2011 but was upset by Esperanza Spalding. Braun says to the fans, “Looks like we get to stay the underdog a little longer.” Spalding, by the way, got three nominations this year.

KESHA FINDS HERSELF IN AFRICA

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Kesha says the problem with everyone knowing who you are is that you’re never really alone. That’s why she disappeared into Africa for a month. She says touring is fun but it was a luxury to give up her security team, her makeup and her phone and just walk around with a backpack.

She says being surrounded by a lot of people can lead to an egocentric lifestyle, so to keep herself grounded, she decided to “run around barefoot and sleep in the dirt.” That got her charged up to write her new  album “Warrior,” out today.

KATY PERRY, CARLY RAE JEPSEN GET BILLBOARD HONORS

NEW YORK (AP) — Billboard named Katy Perry its woman of the year, but the pop star thought her year was 2011.

Perry was interviewed by Jon Stewart at Billboard’s Women in Music event Friday in New York City. The singer said she thought her moment had passed. Perry released “Teenage Dream” in 2010, and it sparked five No. 1 hits on the Billboard charts that spilled over to 2011. This year, she rereleased the album, which launched two more hits and a top-grossing 3-D film.

She thanked her mom at the event, which honored women who work in the music industry.

Newcomer Carly Rae Jepsen also thanked her mom — and stepmom — when accepting the rising star honor. The “Call Me Maybe” singer said she’s happy and surprised by her success.
