MTV DEVOTING PLATFORM TO OBAMA INTERVIEW FRIDAY

NEW YORK (AP) — MTV says it will air a live 30-minute interview with President Barack Obama across its various networks and platforms on Friday at 5 p.m. Eastern time and on tape delay at 5 p.m. Pacific time.

Viewers are being invited to submit questions for the president on MTV’s Facebook page. MTV News correspondent Sway Calloway will interview Obama at the White House, while Andrew Jenks will be reporting from a Washington-area college campus.

MTV hopes many questions will focus on issues important to young voters, such as jobs and the cost of college.

The interview will air on five different networks, MTV.com and its mobile platform.

Spokeswoman Janice Gatti says the network has reached out to Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney for a similar special, but hasn’t gotten a response.

“SPIDER-MAN” CO-WRITER HAS A BOOK DEAL

Spider-Man Turn Off The Dark

NEW YORK (AP) — The “Spider-Man” saga is going from the stage to the page.

Glen Berger, co-writer of the disaster-prone “Spider-Man, Turn Off the Dark,” is working on a book. “Song of Spider-Man: The Inside Story of the Most Controversial Musical in Broadway History,” will come out next year, Simon & Schuster announced Tuesday. Simon & Schuster publisher Jonathan Karp said the book would be, “entomologically speaking,” the “ultimate fly-on-the-wall account” of how a musical is made.

The big budget production became notorious for a series of stunt accidents during previews. The show was eventually revamped and the original director, Julie Taymor, was fired. Taymor later sued the producers, who countersued. A tentative settlement was reached over the summer.

BRITNEY SPEARS TRIAL

Sam Lutif with Britney SpearsLOS ANGELES (AP) — The man who presided over Britney Spears’ life during her well-publicized meltdown has portrayed himself in court as a benevolent personal manager who saved her from ruin.

Sam Lutfi was to finish his direct testimony Wednesday and face cross-examination by a battery of lawyers for the singer’s parents and conservators.

They are fighting a lawsuit by Lutfi, who claims he was defamed by Lynne Spears in her book about her daughter. He also says he was promised 15 percent of the millions of dollars Spears earned during their association.

Spears mother portrayed him as a Svengali-like figure preying on Britney’s vulnerabilities.

Lutfi says he was actually a peacemaker, reuniting Spears with her parents after a long estrangement. He says she implored him to become her personal manager.

JUDGE RULES ON WEAPONS CHARGE IN MADONNA FAN CASE

NEW YORK (AP) – A New York City judge has dismissed weapons charges against a former firefighter arrested outside Madonna’s apartment building two years ago. The New York Post reports a judge ruled police improperly seized a gravity knife and an ice pick from Robert Linhart when they arrested him. Police say Linhart parked his SUV outside the building, laid out a tarp and spray-painted poster boards that said, “Madonna, I need you,” and “Tell me yes or no. If it’s yes, my dream will come true. If it’s no, I will go.” Linhart still faces a charge of resisting arrest.

GLES NOTES: AREA BROADCASTER GETS HAIRCUT…AND OTHER FASCINATING TOPICS

GLES NOTES
Mike Glesinger speaking of sports (and more…)

I have been a little slow in keeping up with technology. I don’t “facebook” or “twit” or is it “tweet”? I don’t even have a home computer…yet. But with the launch of our newest project here at KCOW/Double Q Country/KCNB..”Panhandle Post”, I have been given the oppourtunity to write a little piece..or is it a “Blog”..about things that I find interesting or unusual or just some of the things I find amusing or relevant. I will try to embrace this new venture with an emphasis on things that are fun and what I hope people will enjoy reading about.

I will call this blog “Gles Notes”. That way I am not limited to strictly sports but other topics as well. Now understand, besides my wife Sarah, sports is my true love so you will see a lot of sports here. I read and report on sports 4-5 times per day on the radio. I broadcast approximately 50-60 sports events per year and I watch or listen to much more than that. I have a lot of friends involved in sports. But I have a lot of other interests too. I love all kinds of music, movies, old television shows. I love to read..mostly sports biographies and history. I enjoy collecting different things..I am still trying to find that rare baseball card that will make me rich!! I like to play golf, ride my bike, take walks in the evening and attend events that involve our local kids. I like being involved in the community and volunteer to help when time permits–so…my interests are many. I will try not to be too opinionated , but these thoughts are mine and not necessarily the opinions of the radio station. I will try not to be too boring with things like..” I got a haircut today”. Now if I find a rare baseball card on my way to Kurl and Swirl, then You will hear about that. My writing style may not be the best..I tend to write like I talk. So please excuse my grammar and spelling, I’ll do the best I can. I’ll try to add a picture once in awhile, maybe a joke or two. Like I said at the beginning, this is a new venture for me, but one that I think I will enjoy and I hope you do too.

NCAA NOTICE OF ALLEGATIONS AGAINST CSC RELEASED

The Nebraska State College System says the NCAA has released its formal Notice of Allegations over potential violations by the Chadron State College football program.

The Notice should be available online tomorrow on both the CSC and NSCS websites after a review by school and system officials.

The potential violations involved money from 4 fundraising golf tournaments and checking accounts set up outside college control by then-head football coach Bill O’Boyle.

Chadron State and the NSCS self-reported the issue last fall, with the school suspending O’Boyle and eventually deciding not to renew his contract.

The college, NSCS, and the NCAA conducted an investigation using an outside firm experience in such matters, releasing the final report in july.

A release from the NSCS office says Chadron State College will thoroughly review the allegations before submitting a written response to the Notice of Allegations to the NCAA by a December 17 due date.

A hearing by the NCAA Committee on Infractions is tentatively scheduled as part of the committee’s meeting next February 22-24, with a specific time and date to be announced later.

Representatives from Chadron State will present the panel with an institutional response at that hearing.

NSCS Chancellor Stan Carpenter says the school and system will continue to cooperate with the NCAA to resolve the matter.

Carpenter also says he’s confident in the “new leadership of the football program at Chadron,” with head coach Jay Long, the college, and the NSCS to “restore Chadron’s good standing with the NCAA and continue the
football program’s strong tradition of success.”

The websites where the official Notice of Allegations will be found are www.csc.edu and www.nscs.edu.

Pelini said, “I’m not just healthy, I’m very healthy.”

The 44-year-old said he returned to work Sunday to break down film of Nebraska’s 42-13 win over Arkansas State and to begin preparing for this week’s game against Idaho State.

He said he has no heart problems or issues related to stress and that Saturday was “an isolated incident.”
