BETTY (CRATON) SPAIN, 90

Betty (Craton) Spain, 90, died Friday, September 21, 2012 at Golden Living Center in Scottsbluff.  A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, September 24, 2012 at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Banner County with Pastor Sheila Taylor officiating.  Visitation will be held from 9-9:45 a.m. Monday, September 24, at Jolliffe Funeral Home in Scottsbluff with a procession to Pleasant Hill following.  Memorials may be made to Prairie Haven Hospice or to the donor’s choice.  Online condolences may be made by visiting www.jones-mortuary.com

 Betty and her twin sister, Dorothy, were born at home to John E. and Edna V. (Parks) Craton on Dec. 21, 1921.  Betty was christened Marguerite Elizabeth.  She was raised on the family farm close to LaGrange, WY and received her education there, graduating from LaGrange High School.

 Following high school she was employed as a secretary for the Veteran’s Administration in Cheyenne WY., where she met and married Merrill L. Kvaal in 1948.  They had one child, DeWayne Pat, before the marriage dissolved.  Later, she was an Administrative Secretary for the Lockheed Corporation in Calif.   Betty married Henry William Spain in Burbank, Calif in Nov. 1963.

 Betty and Hank traveled some in their RV after she retired from Lockheed, and then they moved to the Good Samaritan Village in Loveland, CO to be near her sister and husband, Lucy and Pat Bolin, who also resided there.  After her husband’s death, Betty moved to Golden Living in Scottsbluff to be near her nieces, nephews, and sisters in Gering and Kimball.

 Survivors include her sister, Francelia (Herbert) Johnson; nephews, R. Douglas Bolin, Roger. E. Johnson, and Richard K. Johnson; and nieces, Valetta Bolin (Melvin) Schneider and Peggy Warner (Glenn) Shorney.

 Preceding Betty in death were her parents; infant twin sister, Dorothy; husband, Hank; her son, DeWayne Pat Kvaal; sisters, Lucy E. Bolin and Mildred Mae Warner; and infant twin nieces.
