LOS ANGELES (AP) – “Oz the Great and Powerful” is proving to be both – at least when it comes to movies this year. The Disney film is number one for the second straight week. It took in $42.2 million over the weekend. In a winter of movies that have underperformed at the box office, “Oz” is easily the biggest hit of the year. But overall, box office revenues are still down 13 percent from last year.
LOS ANGELES (AP) – Are you ready for more craziness from Bruno Tonioli, over-the-top excitement from Carrie Ann Inaba and harsh comments from Len Goodman for couples who don’t dance by the rules? Season 16 of “Dancing With the Stars begins tonight. Twelve celebrities will compete, including Wynonna Judd, Kellie Pickler and “The Bachelor” Sean Lowe. Each will dance tonight. They’ll have to wait a week to find out who’s the first to go home. Instead of a results show tomorrow night, it’ll be a hour-long special with scenes from backstage, interviews and a recap of the tonight’s performances.

LOS ANGELES (AP) – You’ll see the contestants try two new styles of dancing on “Dancing With the Stars.” They’ll do contemporary and jazz dancing. The 16th season premieres this Monday with a two-hour episode. The 12 celebrities will perform their first dance for half the show and the other half will be scenes from backstage and highlights. No one gets voted off until the following week.
NASHVILLE, Tennessee (AP) – Ever wonder what happens to the thousands of pieces of fan mail sent to singers and rappers? The people who write them hope theirs is carefully read by their heroes, answered – and maybe saved in a scrapbook.
But that isn’t what happened to hundreds of letters addressed to Taylor Swift. Those letters ended up in a recycling dumpster near an office that does business for the country star. A woman who was putting her own stuff in a dumpster in south Nashville found a bunch of letters addressed to Swift.
Kylee Francescan reports many of the letters were unopened. She tells a Nashville TV station (WKRN) she didn’t know if the letters were stolen or deliberately trashed – but wanted Swift’s people to know about them. A rep of Swift’s record label said he’s unsure how the letters ended up in the dumpster. A member of Swift’s management team says usually fan letters are opened, read and recycled – and that in this case it appears some of the letters ended up being recycled without being opened and read. The letters recovered from the dumpster have been passed on to Swift’s publicity firm – where her people say they will be handled properly.
LOS ANGELES (AP) – Nicki Minaj must have been hungry last night. She showed up about 15 minutes into the live “American Idol” broadcast. Minaj told Paul Jolley that he looked delicious and was stimulating her “sexual appetite.” Minaj says Kree Harrison reminds her of her favortie breakfast, waffles and syrup. Candice Glover got a standing ovation from three of the four judges. Mariah Carey says she would have stood too, but her skirt was too tight. Tonight, we’ll have the results of the first viewers’ vote of season 12. There will also be a sing-off between the guy and gal who just missed making it into the Top 10. He or she will get to be part of the Idol Live tour this summer.
