HUEY LEWIS AND THE NEWS CELEBRATE 30TH ANNIVERSARY OF “SPORTS” ALBUM (HEADLINE WRITER FEELS SO VERY, VERY OLD.)

sports

LOS ANGELES (AP) – Huey Lewis And The News will mark the 30th anniversary of the release of their “Sports” album with a re-release and a concert tour. They will release an anniversary edition with live tracks on May 14. They will play “Sports” in its entirety on their summer tour that begins May 10 in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Huey Lewis And The News will also perform on the “Dancing With The Stars” results show on Tuesday.

TV THIS WEEKEND: “WALKING DEAD” SEASON FINALE

the-walking-dead-season-3-teaser_450x255

LOS ANGELES (AP) – The season three finale of “The Walking Dead” airs this Sunday on AMC. Rick and the group have to decide if the prison is worth defending, as The Governor is about to attack. The finale will be discussed during the live after-show, “Talking Dead.”

“IDOL” SAYING BYE-BYE TO THE GUYS

American Idol

LOS ANGELES (AP) – The fellas are falling on “American Idol.” Only two of the remaining seven contestants are guys. Last night, the bottom three were all guys. Devin Velez is the one who came up short. The crowd was screaming for the judges to use their once-per-season save to keep Devin in the competition. But the judges didn’t agree and Devin was sent packing. Burnell Taylor and Lazaro (LAZ’-ah-roh) Arbos will be back next week. The night had its low moments for Kree Harrison, too. She lost her balance in her platform stilettos and hit the floor.

KCOW INVITES YOU TO “ASK THE EXPERTS”

If anybody deserves a break, it’s Gordon Hoff of Alliance Floral Hoffhaus Gardens.

Each Spring for over two decades, Gordon has made time to visit the KCOW studios and answer listener questions every Saturday morning on the popular “Landscape Lingo” series.

This year, with no sign of a slowdown at the Gardens–and a new greenhouse project in full swing–Gordon is taking a well-deserved year off.  And KCOW is taking the opportunity to try something new: a series of call-in shows featuring a guest with a different area of expertise each week.  “Ask The Experts” will air in the traditional “Lingo” timeslot, Saturday mornings at 9:00am for several weeks beginning April 6th.

greg

The first expert joining us in our spiffy new KCOW studio is Greg Sanders from Jack’s Refrigeration, who will answer questions about heating, cooling, and (perhaps) how to make the perfect pulled pork sandwich.  Future experts will share their knowledge on home maintenance, auto care and repair, and more.

Everyone who calls in with a question over the entire season of “Ask The Experts” programs will be entered into a drawing for a brand new lawnmower from Bloedorn Lumber Alliance.

Connecting listeners to the answers will be “Ask The Experts” host Jason Wentworth who notes: “My area of expertise is Herman’s Hermits records and ‘Brady Bunch’ episodes.  I think the experts we have lined up to answer questions will be a lot more helpful than I would be!”

SPOTS OPEN FOR 2ND ANNUAL KCOW/DOUBLE Q COUNTRY ARTS & CRAFTS FESTIVAL

craftfair

KCOW/Double Q Country is looking for a variety of talented, “crafty” people who are looking for an opportunity to display and sell their creations. Our second annual Arts & Crafts Festival will be held Saturday, June 1st across the street from the well-attended Thunder on the Prairie Car Show/Rod Run.  The setting is in the City Park near the fountain along the winding path next to Snake Creek.  Spaces (10′ x 14′) will be staked out for you to set up your displays/canopies.  You would have the chance to not only sell your pieces, but also to show how you do your craft if you so choose.  Some may actually choose to sell the pieces to make an item and instruct the buyer how to get started with your particular craft.

KCOW/Double Q Country will advertise the event for several weeks in advance and will be doing a live remote from the Car Show site during that morning to draw the people to the events.  We are planning to add food/drink vendors this year, as well.  Our coverage reaches Eastern Wyoming, Southwestern South Dakota, as well as the whole Panhandle of Nebraska.  We are offering the spaces for only $50.00.  Contact Terri Friesen by May 24th at (308)762-1400 for more information, or to sign up to be included in this fun event.  Feel free to share this information with other interested parties who may not have heard of this opportunity.
