“Y & R” STAR JEANNE COOPER DIES

Jeanne Cooper

LOS ANGELES (AP) – Jeanne Cooper is being remembered as “a daytime television legend.” Cooper played Katherine Chancellor on “The Young and the Restless” for 40 years. She won her only Emmy four years ago on her 11th try. One of her castmates Melissa Claire Egan tweets that “heaven just gained one feisty angel.” Her son, Corbin Bernsen, says his mom was “a blaze her entire life.” She was 84.

REALITY ROUNDUP: NICE SURVIVORS FINISH LAST, VOTING TROUBLE ON “THE VOICE”

Reality TV Logo

LOS ANGELES (AP) – Usually you see hockey players growing playoff beards, but Angie Miller’s brother has decided to grow one as she competes in the final three on “American Idol.” Randy Jackson says Miller did a great job being understated on “Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word.” Keith Urban and Mariah Carey had tears in their eyes for Kree Harrison singing “Here Comes Goodbye.” However, Nicki Minaj thought whoever chose “Better Dig Two” for Harrison should be stoned because it’s out of Harrison’s comfort zone. Candice Glover got a standing ovation for her performance of “Somewhere.” Minaj says Glover is going to inspire young women because she owns who she is on stage.

Something didn’t go right with the first viewers’ vote of the season on “The Voice.” At the top of last night’s show, Carson Daly said there were “some inconsistencies in this week’s text and online voting.” He says the problem was quickly identified in consultation with the vote tabulating company Telescope. But NBC isn’t detailing the problem with Internet voting. The Voice’s producers decided not to include text and online voting in this week’s totals. Daly says removing the votes didn’t change the outcome for any team.

Sometimes it doesn’t pay to be nice. Brenda won the loved ones Reward Challenge on “Survivor: Caramoan” last night. But she gave up the visit with her family so her tribemates spend time with their loved ones. It didn’t matter much in the Tribal Council though. After Dawn won the Immunity Challenge, Brenda was voted out. Brenda told her tribemates that she had been honest with them and they turned on her. As she snuffed out her torch, Brenda said it hurts.

BIEBER HAS THE NEED FOR SPEED IN DUBAI

justin-bieber-m

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) – Some of the latest photos taken of Justin Bieber have him in trouble with the law. Seems he had the speed cameras going off almost as much as the paparazzi shutters when he’s out. Police in Dubai, United Arab Emirates say the singer racked up a number of speeding tickets as he drove a white Lamborghini around town. Police tell local newspapers The Beeb was eventually pulled over. The singer’s reps didn’t immediately return calls seeking comment.

REALITY ROUNDUP: “DANCING” SENDS BACHELOR HOME, “IDOL” SENDS FINALISTS HOME

Reality TV Logo

LOS ANGELES (AP) – At least “The Bachelor” will know how to dance at his wedding. Sean Lowe was voted off “Dancing With the Stars” last night. It’s no big surprise, as Lowe had the lowest scores from the judges this week. Lowe had made some progress and last week climbed out of the bottom two. But this week, one of the judges told him his dancing was more tragic than magic. While Lowe won’t win, he has no regrets. Lowe says being on Dancing With the Stars was a great experience for a regular guy from Dallas.

Adam Levine can’t live Sasha Allen down. Levine dropped her from his team on “The Voice.” All Blake Shelton could do was laugh. After Sasha performed live last night, her current coach Shakira, said Sasha has one of the best voices she’s ever heard. Team Shakira and Team Blake performed last night. The Swon Brothers did “Fishing in the Dark” for Team Blake. Usher wasn’t familiar with the song, but says he’s done some fishing in the dark of another sort. Tonight, the first eliminations of the season based on viewer votes.

On tonight’s “American Idol,” we’ll get to see the welcome home that Kree, Candice and Angie got when they returned to their hometowns over the weekend. Then, it’s down to business. The final three will sing songs picked for them by the judges and Jimmy Iovine (eye-VEEN’). Each finalist will sing three songs: one chosen by the judges, one picked by Iovine and the last picked by the contestants. Tomorrow night, the two singers who’ll compete in the finals will be revealed. Alicia Keys and Lauren Alaina will perform.

‘MEMBER THE 80’S? THE ORIGINAL MTV VJ’S DISH THE DIRT

vj_mtv_first_wave_book

NEW YORK (AP) – In the early days of MTV when every kid in America knew who Martha Quinn was, she was making all of $26,000.

The four surviving original MTV VJs say in their new book, “VJ: The Unplugged Adventures of MTV’s First Wave,” they often worked 14-hour shifts and helped the crew when they were shorthanded. Nina Blackwood says John Cougar tried to seduce her. Aretha Franklin made chili for Alan Hunter. Mark Goodman recalls wild parties given by David Lee Roth. The fifth VJ, JJ Jackson, died in 2004. “VJ” is out today.

JUSTIN BIEBER TACKLED BY HIS OWN SECURITY GUARDS

Justin Bieber

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) – Seems that when you get a ticket to a Justin Bieber show, there’s a good chance you’ll get a dose of drama along with the music.

The latest unplanned incident came the other day as The Beeb did a show in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. A fan bum-rushed the stage as the singer was playing a piano at the edge of the stage. Security guards tackled the intruder from behind – but their momentum carried them all into Bieber – and knocked over the piano. Bieber rose from the pileup and left the stage as security took the fan away.

Bieber was fine afterward and he later tweeted: “Noting stops the show.”

REALITY ROUNDUP: JUDGES SMACKDOWN ON “DANCING”, “VOICE” GOES LIVE

Reality TV Logo

LOS ANGELES (AP) – “Somebody just hose ’em down.” That’s what Tom Bergeron said on “Dancing With the Stars” as the judges got into a heated argument last night. All three were standing up and yelling at each other. At issue was whether Kellie Pickler did a proper paso doble is. Head judge Len Goodman said no and give her just a seven. But Carrie Ann Inaba  and Bruno Tonioli  thought she was great and gave her perfect 10s. It came on her second dance of the evening, as each of the stars performed with two pros.

The singing was live on “The Voice” last night, for the first time this season. Team Adam and Team Usher performed. Usher says his team members are taking his advice as their coach. To drive the point home, he had them working out in a kickboxing gym. Usher is playing former champ Sugar Ray Leonard in an upcoming movie. Judith Hill was a knockout for Team Adam. Blake Shelton says if anything, she’s too good. Team Shakira and Team Blake are up tonight.
