LOS ANGELES (AP) – Adam Lambert has left his record label because he doesn’t want to go ’80s. Lambert tells The Hollywood Reporter he has left RCA after two albums because the label was pushing him to do an album of cover songs from the 1980s.
Lambert says, “While there are lots of great songs from that decade, my heart is simply not in doing a covers album.” Lambert says he is “respectfully parting ways with RCA.” He has not yet found a new label. RCA did not respond to requests for comment.
LOS ANGELES (AP) – The minions are still golden. The animated “Despicable Me 2” stays number-one for a second straight weekend. Its world-wide total now tops $472 million. Adam Sandler’s comedy “Grown Ups 2” opens in second. It brings in more than 42 mil, for the second best opening of Sandler’s career. The monsters-versus-robots action flick “Pacific Rim” opens at a disappointing number-three. “The Heat” is fourth, followed by “The Lone Ranger.”
VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) – An autopsy is expected today to determine what killed Cory Monteith. The “Glee” star was found dead Saturday in a hotel room in Vancouver, British Columbia. Police say there’s no indication of foul play.
The 31-year-old Monteith had a history of addiction and checked himself into rehab just last April. Monteith had openly talked about struggling with drugs since he was a teenager. He said he had a serious problem and took just “anything and everything.” He told Parade magazine in 2011 that he was “lucky to be alive.”

LOS ANGELES (AP) – The director of Michael Jackson’s comeback tour has testified he was frightened when Jackson was shivering and seemed lost at one of his rehearsals six days before he died. Kenny Ortega told a Los Angeles jury Jackson missed several rehearsals and sometimes appeared to be under the influence of a substance. Ortega read an email he sent to the CEO of concert promoter AEG Live in which he described Jackson as a “lost boy.” Ortega’s testimony is part of a lawsuit filed by Jackson’s mother against AEG Live, claiming the company missed warning signs about Jackson’s health and did not properly screen Dr. Conrad Murray, who was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in Jackson’s death.

Some of the language was included in the most recent televised episode and ratings shot up 6 percent. Nicky Minaj is on the cover of Marie Claire magazine looking relatively conservative, at least for her. Inside the magazine, she says people’s perception of her “completely changed” when she was on “American Idol.” She says it showed her “real personality.” Minaj says her “core is a genuine human being who roots for other people.” She says her work on Idol led to her first big movie role. Director Nick Cassavetes asked her to play Cameron Diaz’s assistant in “The Other Woman.” She says he cast her because Idol made her seem “more relatable.”
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Country music stars and fans joined together to urge prayers for Randy Travis overnight as he recovered from brain surgery following a stroke at a Texas hospital.
Publicist Kirt Webster says Travis remains in critical condition Thursday after surgery the previous night to relieve pressure on his brain. The 54-year-old Grammy Award-winning singer had been improving while being treated for heart failure caused by a viral infection when he had the stroke.
Steady concern for Travis, a popular and pivotal figure in country music, turned to active support as stars like Hillary Scott of Lady Antebellum and Martina McBride and the Grand Ole Opry used Twitter to join Webster’s call for prayers. Hundreds of users reached out using the hashtag PrayforRandy.
