Alliance High Alumi, David Kuskie Dreams Big in the City of Angels

Lights! Camera! Action!

David Kuskie 2015

Alliance High School 2004 graduate David Kuskie, who now resides in Los Angeles, has been forging a career in motion picture and television. He has worked behind the scenes as a member of the technical crew on a variety of film, TV and online projects. And as an “extra” or background performer, he has appeared in an episode of the HBO comedy “Veep” and other nationally seen productions.

Now, Kuskie is returning to the Cornhusker state to see two of his early short film productions screened at the Prairie Lights Film Festival in Grand Island this weekend. Kuskie’s short “Film Fest: We Could Do This In Sanford”, about the formation of an annual short film festival in Florida; and “Only Alliance,” a music video celebrating Alliance’s 125th anniversary, will be screened over two sessions on Saturday, October 17th.
David Kuskie
The road to Hollywood has been a long and sometimes arduous one; Kuskie served a six year tour in the United States Navy after graduating from high school, living for much of that time in Japan. Kuskie then began his formal education in film acting and production–first at Full Sail University in Winter Park, Florida, followed by advanced studies at the Los Angeles campus of the New York Film Academy. Since finishing his studies, Kuskie has taken a variety of assignments in the entertainment industry, and continues to write and produce independent short films like those which will be screened in Grand Island this weekend.

Success is far from guaranteed in an industry known for being competitive and difficult to break into. But living and working in L.A. has given Kuskie the strength to keep trying. Despite ocassional adversity, he continues to live out a dream that’s been with him since childhood.

Thursday evening Alliance/Chadron News Director, Kalin Krohe interviewed Kuskie. Below is the full interview.

PHOTOS & AUDIO: U.S. Senator Deb Fischer Hosts Listening Session in Alliance

Nebraska Senator Deb Fischer (R) held a listening session Wednesday afternoon at the Knight Museum and Sandhills Center.  Senator Fischer discussed a variety of legislative projects and concerns in her opening remarks.  Like Governor Pete Ricketts, who visited Alliance last week, Fischer discussed what she considered overreaching legislation by the Environmental Protection Agency.  Attendees expanded on this topic during the question-and-answer session.  Other topics heard in the Q & A period included the rising costs of insurance relating to the Affordable Care Act, and current & future energy policies.

KCOW’S JASON AND MIKE FACE OFF IN “SIMPSONS” SMACKDOWN

Both of our competitors believe they have what it takes to win! Jason has his "game face" on, while Gles has his game headphones on...
Both of our competitors believe they have what it takes to win! Jason has his “game face” on, while Gles has his game headphones on…

KCOW Sports Director and “Voice of the Bulldogs” Mike Glesinger is a guy who really loves The Simpsons.  So is KCOW “Wakeup Show” host Jason Wentworth.  But who would reign supreme in a Simpsons trivia faceoff?

We’ll find out Friday August 28th at 9:00am as these two titans of useless minutae square off in a round of “Simpsons Jeopardy!  Best of all, you can support the Alliance Track Fund by visiting the KCOW Studios at 1210 West 10th St. in Alliance and using your dollars and cents to vote for who you believe will emerge victorious.  The studios are open weekdays from 9:00am to 3:00pm, and all money raised from both boxes goes directly to the fund established to build a new track at Alliance High School.  (If you can’t make up your mind, stuff both ballot boxes!)

The winner of “Simpsons Jeopardy” will receive a $20 Krusty Burger gift certificate, two tickets to Itchy and Scratchy Land, and a year’s membership in the Stonecutters.  But the real winners will be everyone who supports the track fund by voting for their favorite Simpsons geek at KCOW!

GALLERY: Lincoln Exhibit at Alliance’s Knight Museum

“Lincoln: The Constitution and the Civil War”, a traveling exhibit now at the Knight Museum and Sandhills Center, will be traveling again after Friday, August 21st.  This series of three-dimensional displays, which tells the story of Lincoln’s struggle to meet the constitutional challenges of the Civil War, was developed by the National Constitution Center and the American Library Association.

We hope this photo gallery will whet your appetite, and that you’ll visit the Museum at 908 Yellowstone in Alliance to see it this week.  If you’ve never been to the Museum, plan some extra time to appreciate the permanent exhibits, which explore Alliance’s railroad history and the contributions of Nebraska’s Native American community.

And of course, snap a selfie with Newberry the Horse.
