JASON’S YOUTUBE FLASHBACK! 12/5/12

20th Century Fox wasn’t quite sure how to promote their new release “Miracle On 34th Street”.  This charming trailer (can you imagine a five-minute trailer today?) tells the story…

YOU CAN GO YOUR OWN WAY TO SEE FLEETWOOD MAC ON TOUR

NEW YORK (AP) – Fleetwood Mac is about to tour. But does that mean they will be on the road to support a new album? Not exactly is the best answer. Members of the group have been working on new music – with Stevie Nicks singing on tracks that Lindsey Buckingham, Mick Fleetwood and John McVie had worked on. But Nicks says she isn’t sure what is to become of the music. She says the way things are in the music world these days, doing an album would be tough. But she says the group might release a couple of tracks here and there before deciding to share more songs. The Fleetwood Mac tour is set to start April 4 in Columbus, Ohio.

TONIGHT ON TV: GRAMMY NOMINATIONS SPECIAL

UNDATED (AP) – Singer Nate Ruess of fun. isn’t making any assumptions about the Grammy nominations. When asked about their chances, Ruess knocked on a wood table for luck and said, “I’m not even going to talk about it.” Fun. is a Best New Artist contender, along with Frank Ocean, Gotye, Carly Rae Jepsen, One Direction and Hunter Hayes. Potential album of the year nominees include “Babel” by Mumford and Sons, “Mylo Xyloto” by Coldplay, “El Camino” by The Black Keys and Rihanna’s “Talk That Talk.” Taylor Swift’s “Red” album came out too late to be eligible, but “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” came out before then, so the single could be a Record of the Year contender. The Grammy nominations will be announced during a CBS special tonight.

JASON’S YOUTUBE FLASHBACK! 12/4/12

“Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer” airs tonight on CBS!  And here are some things you might not know about this perennial classic about a pair of “misfits”:

-The special originally aired on NBC, not CBS.  In fact, “Rudolph” hopped networks in the early 70s.

-“Rudolph” was originally an episode of “The General Electric Fantasy Hour”, a family anthology series that offered a variety of live action and animated programs for all ages.

-The ending of the show, where Rudolph and Santa rescue the Misfit Toys, was not in the first broadcast of “Rudolph”!  Viewers wrote the sponsor and the network, demanding to see a happy ending for the Cowboy Who Rides An Ostrich, the Charlie-In-A-Box, etc.  A new ending was written and animated for the show’s second broadcast in 1965, and that’s the ending we’ve seen every year since.

-In its first airing, Santa’s elves pulled double duty–as toymakers and commercial pitchmen!  You’ll see for yourself in this clip, which recreates what that very first broadcast would have looked like, starting with a promo that aired leading up to the show.
