LOS ANGELES (AP) – The sound of chain saws and screams managed to chase The Hobbit out of the number-one spot at the nation’s theaters. “Texas Chainsaw 3-D” is the new number one – taking in $23 million in its first weekend of release. Number two behind Leatherface and his oft-used power tool: “Django Unchained.” The Quentin Tarantino film is the runner up for the second straight weekend, taking in just over $20 million. And after three weeks on top, “The Hobbit” drops to third. It took in $17.5 million over the weekend.

IT’S ELVIS WEEK IN MEMPHIS
MEMPHIS, Tennessee (AP) – This year, Elvis Presley’s birthday is all about Hawaii. The exhibit “Elvis’ Hawaii: Concerts, Movies and More!” opened over the weekend at Graceland to mark Presley’s birthday tomorrow. It includes the jumpsuits he wore for his Hawaiian concerts, the gold lame’ jacket he wore for his first Hawaiian concert in 1957 and a tiki mug made to promote “Blue Hawaii.” It also includes never-before-seen film footage of Elvis on the boat heading to Hawaii in 1957 and footage from that concert. Tomorrow will be declared Elvis Presley Day in Memphis and birthday cake will be served to fans at Graceland.
LINDSAY LOHAN TO APPEAR IN COURT (IN OTHER NEWS: THE SKY IS BLUE)
NEW YORK (AP) – Actress Lindsay Lohan is scheduled to appear in court to face assault charges in connection with a fight at a Manhattan nightclub.
She’s charged with misdemeanor assault in the Nov. 29 incident at Club Avenue.
The “Mean Girls” and “Liz and Dick” star allegedly struck a woman in the face during an argument.
She’s due in criminal court Monday where she’ll learn whether prosecutors will pursue the case against her.
At the time of her arrest, her attorney, Mark Heller, said Lohan was “a victim of someone trying to capture their 15 minutes of fame.”
In September, she was involved in an NYPD investigation after alleging a man assaulted her in a hotel. Charges against the man were later dropped.

JASON’S YOUTUBE FLASHBACK! 1/3/13
One of our favorite classic hits, performed on “The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour”:
GRAMMYS HONOR THE BOSS
LOS ANGELES (AP) – Musicians are lining up for the chance to pay tribute to Bruce Springsteen. The Recording Academy will honor Springsteen as its MusiCares Person of the Year on February 8 in Los Angeles. The tribute concert includes Elton John, Mumford and Sons, Neil Young, Sting, Mavis Staples, Kenny Chesney, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, Alabama Shakes, Emmylou Harris, Ben Harper, Natalie Maines of the Dixie Chicks, Tom Morello, Eddie Vedder, Patti Smith and Jackson Browne. Jon Stewart will host. The Grammys will be held two days later.
JUSTIN BIEBER REACTS TO PHOTOGRAPHER DEATH
LOS ANGELES (AP) – Justin Bieber says something has to be done to protect both celebrities – and the people who get paid big bucks to take pictures of them. The singer has issued a statement in the wake of the death of a photographer who died after getting shots of The Beeb’s white Ferrari on a Los Angeles street. The photographer was struck by a car as he crossed a busy boulevard after taking the photos. In his statement, Bieber says his prayers are with the family of the man who died. But he says he hopes the tragedy will “finally inspire meaningful legislation” to protect those who end up in harm’s way when photographers go after shots of celebrities. He says not only does that include the celebrities and photographers, but also police and innocent bystanders.
“DOWNTON ABBEY” POPULAR WITH KIDS?
BEVERLY HILLS (AP) – Hugh Bonneville is surprised to learn that young people watch “Downton Abbey.” He says he was on the playground with his son one day and an eleven-year-old boy came up to him to say that he didn’t like the character Thomas. He says it was the first time he realized the show “was breaking the boundaries of the expected audience.” He says he became “gradually aware that young people had bought into the show.” Season Three starts Sunday on PBS.
