TORRINGTON, Wyo. (AP) – Officials with the state Department of Corrections say a Wyoming prison inmate has died after a brief illness.

The agency says 53-year-old Bruce Allen Broomfield died Tuesday at the Wyoming Medium Correctional Institution in Torrington.

Broomfield was serving two concurrent sentences of three to five years for strangulation and aggravated assault and battery. He was sentenced in December 2014 in Laramie County.

Officials have ordered a routine autopsy.
