Wyoming prosecutors have agreed not to seek the death penalty against a Wheatland man who pleaded no contest this week to killing his three sons and his brother 2 years ago. 37-year old Everett Conant III had also faces charges for wounding his wife in the same incident.
Conant entered the pleas Wednesday during a hearing in Evanston, home of the Wyoming State Hospital, where he’s been undergoing mental evaluations.
Kerri Johnson of the Wyoming Public Defender’s Office represents Conant, and says the parties agreed at the plea hearing that the judge could sentence Conant to life for each count.
A no contest plea is treated the same as a guilty plea for sentencing purposes. Conant had originally entered pleas of not guilty and “not guilty by reason of mental illness.”
Court documents show that officials were forced in the months after the shooting to feed Conant intravenously to stop him from starving himself.
