WET CONDITIONS DELAYING SAND CREEK BRIDGE REPLACEMENT

Sand Creek BridgeToadstool Road in extreme northwestern Dawes County was scheduled to close Monday for the start of a project to replace the Sand Creek Bridge, but the wet weekend has pushed that back a bit.

Kim Earney of the U-S Forest Service says the area needs to dry out a bit before equipment can get in.

Although unpaved, Toadstool Road is classified as a federal highway because it’s on federal land managed by the Forest Service. Earney says that means that the bulk of the funding comes from the Federal Highway Administration.

Rocky Mountain Excavating of Colorado is the contractor for the project.

During the construction, Toadstool Road will be closed at Cottonwood Road on the south and Sand Creek Road on the north. Earney says the closure is scheduled to last about 7 weeks, but would likely be shorter if the project doesn’t run into any complications.
