Upcoming Deadline to Report Crops to FSA

The deadline to report 2013 crop acreage to the Farm Service Agency (FSA) is nearing.  Reporting acreage is critical to maintaining eligibility for multiple program benefits, including the Direct and Counter-cyclical Program (DCP) and the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP).  Acreage reporting also establishes a record of cropping history for possible future program application.

July 15 is the final date to report spring seeded crops.  All other crops were to be reported by November 15, 2012.   This includes CRP acres.   Late-filed reports may be subject to the assessment of fees, and must be verified by field visit, or other acceptable documentation.

Prevented planted acres should be reported within 15 days of the final planting date, and failed acres should be reported before disposition of the crop.

It’s important to accurately report the number of acres, crop type, intended use, irrigation practice, producer shares and planting date, as later revisions to this information may be restricted.

Upcoming Deadline 2013 Direct and Counter-cyclical Program (DCP)

Eligible DCP participants receive a direct payment and may also earn counter-cyclical payments when declines in price occur. Direct payment rates are established by statute and issued regardless of market prices. Counter-cyclical payments vary depending on market prices and are issued only when the effective price for a commodity is below its target price. FSA reminds producers that the 2008 Farm Bill does not authorize advance direct payments for 2013.

All owners and operators who will share in the DCP payments on the farm must sign up by August 3, 2013.     Any changes to the farming operation or producers with a risk in the production of crops must be reported, and the contract revised, if necessary.
