UNMC AWARDING 932 DEGREES IN FIVE CITIES

UNMC logo-2The University of Nebraska Medical Center is holding five different commencement ceremonies this weekend to confer diplomas on 932 students.

The school got a jump with ceremonies on Thursday in Norfolk and Kearney for its College of Nursing Divisions in those cities and is holding a ceremony this afternoon in Lincoln for its Lincoln nursing division and the College of Dentistry.

UNMC has two commencements tomorrow…in the morning in Omaha for the Colleges of Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Public Health and Graduate College and School of Allied Health Profession, and at 3:00 in the afternoon at the Gering Civic Center for the West Nebraska Divisions of nursing and dental hygiene.

The school will recognize three individuals at the Omaha ceremony for their long-standing contributions and service to both UNMC and the University of Nebraska.

Duane and Phyllis Acklie of Lincoln will be presented with the UNMC Chancellor’s Distinguished Service Award for their longtime support of UNMC and the University of Nebraska. The Acklies own Crete Carrier Corp., one of the largest privately-owned trucking companies on the continent.

Former state senator and speaker of the Nebraska Unicameral Mike Flood will receive the J.G. Elliott Award for his leadership and vision in the planning and campaign to establish a UNMC College of Nursing division in Norfolk.

The Elliott Award is named for the late Jack Elliott of SB, who served 20 years on the NU board of Regents.
