UNIQUE OBSTACLE COURSE COMPETITION REPLACES FUR TRADE DAYS REGATTA AT CHADRON STATE PARK

With renovation work on its lagoon knocking out the annual Fur Trade Days Regatta, Chadron State Park is offering a new event as a replacement this Sunday.

The Crooked Arrow Obstacle Course is a timed event that combines archery, disc golf, and fishing skills while dodging a variety of obstacles.

Park Superintendent Gregg Galbraith says it’s open to all ages with competition as individuals or 2-to-4 member teams. It begins at 1:00 on the ball diamond west of the Chadron State Park headquarters.

Each entry will have 3 tries to hit targets by shooting a bow and arrow, throwing a Frisbee, or casting a fishing lure before moving on to the next station…all while dodging various things.

Galbraith says that, just like the Regatta, the goal of the Crooke Arrow Obstacle Course is to challenge participants while sharing some laughs.

It’s free with no advance registration and the park will have free watermelon at the Trading Post, but all vehicles must have a Nebraska state park entry pass…which can be purchased at the park entrance or online at outdoornebraska.org.

The Chadron State Park lagoon was drained last fall to deal with leaking and to deepen it by removing decades of silt and sediment, but the amount of work proved greater than expected so the decision was made to leave it dry rather than extend the project even longer by refilling for the summer and having to wait for it dry out again after draining.
