Chadron police have arrested two men for a burglary early Friday morning at convenience and liquor store, with the credit going to surveillance cameras installed after 2 previous burglary attempts.
Lt Rick Hickstein says authorities believe the arrests of 37-year old Orlando Roan Eagle and 27-year old Jon Short Bull solved several crimes.
Hickstein says Sergeant Jarvis Wallage discovered the burglary about 4 am when he saw the glass in the front door of Cheema’s Liquor Store had been broken. He investigated and found that liquor and cigarettes had been taken.
In both of the earlier burglary attempts, July 28 and August 23, someone had used a rock to try and break out the glass in the front door. Hickstein says that led the store owners to work with the police department to install a law enforcement video surveillance system inside.
That paid off Friday by leading police to Roan Eagle and Short Bull, who were both arrested later in the day for burglary.
Hickstein says it’s “a good example of the Chadron Police Department working hand-in-hand with our local business as well as using technology, to solve and prevent crime.
This investigation took us most of the day and the officer’s and deputies’ hard work paid off. We were able to solve several crimes and put two offenders in jail.” Hickstein also thanks the Dawes County Sheriff’s Office and the County Attorney’s office for their assistance.
The police department is following up with Cheema’s to determine the total value of the merchandise taken and the damage to the front door.
