CHADRON – The Regis women scored 31 points off 24 Chadron State turnovers and limited the Eagles to 3-21 on 3-pointers in taking a 76-57 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference win Saturday in Chadron.
While CSC struggled to hang on the ball and make long shots, the Rangers, now 8-11 for the season and 7-8 in the RMAC, excelled in both areas…making 10 of 24 treys and committing just 4 turnovers.
Regis built a 33-20 halftime lead, saw the Eagles cut the margin to 6 with about 13-1/2 minutes to play, then outscored CSC 26-8 over the next 8:00 to cruise to the victory.
Four players did a bulk of the Rangers’ scoring. Tae’lor Purdy finished with 22 points, including 4-7 from 3-point range after coming in shooting just 26% from long-range.
Sarah Feeney had 17 while Erica Von Stein and Miranda Martine came off the bench to tally 13 and 10 points, respectively. Von Stein had just 17 points on the season before the game while shooting 5-24 from the field and 5-22 from 3-point range, but was 4-7 overall and 3-6 from long-range against the Eagles.
Chadron State was led by 6-foot junior Kattie Ranta, who scored 19 points on 8-12 shooting and grabbed a game-high 8 rebounds. Both Kate Simonton and Sadie Waugh added 8 points…Waugh with 8 rebounds as well as the Eagles won the battle of the boards 43-24.
Chadron State is now 3-16 overall and 3-12 in the conference. They head back on the road to Colorado next week with games Friday in Gunnison against Western State and Saturday against Colorado Mesa in Grand Junction.
