We all enjoy the benefit of services we don’t directly see. One such service includes waste collection. In an effort to help those who work on removing our waste, the City of Chadron is asking for your assistance. Alleyways are getting overgrown because of the wet weather and warm days; the large vehicles used to remove waste, in some cases, are unable to clearly see dumpsters or are unable to safely navigate and operate their equipment.
Additionally, our sidewalks are being blocked by bushes and our streets are being affected by low-hanging branches. Overhanging Branches are not only unsightly but can cause many in our community some level of inconvenience; young parents, and our elderly use sidewalks for pleasure and exercise.
Chadron City Ordinance §13-114 Overhanging Branches, outlines that bushes or trees may not block Sidewalks, Streets or Alleys, “In such a way as to impede or interfere with traffic or travel.” Overhead clearance for Streets and Alleys must be ten (10) feet and overhead clearance for Sidewalks must be eight (8) feet. Alleys should be cleared from the center of the Alley to at least the middle of existing dumpsters.
Beginning August 1st, 2015, I will be contacting homeowners and residents in our community whose trees, shrubs and/or bushes may need trimming. Your assistance in bringing any of these trees/shrubs/bushes into compliance prior to that time would be greatly appreciated.
If you would like clarification regarding Chadron City Ordinance §13-114 Overhanging Branches, or if you would like a complete copy of the City of Chadron Ordinance(s) pertaining to Overhanging Branches within the City of Chadron, I would be happy to speak with you.
