HILL CITY, S.D. (AP) — A T-rex named Sue has returned to the Black Hills on the big screen.
KOTA television reports that Hill City residents lined up at the town’s high school Saturday for a screening of “Dinosaur 13, which tells the story of the Tyrannosaurus unearthed from South Dakota more than 20 years ago.
Sue was caught in a complex legal battle over ownership and eventually wound up at Chicago’s Field Museum. The fossils were more than 90 percent complete when they were discovered, missing only a foot, one arm and a few ribs and vertebrae.
Peter Larson says his team discovered the T-Rex on a private ranch but there was a technicality from the owner placing a particular section of land in trust with the United States government.
