HONOLULU (AP) — It isn’t officially called the Steven Tyler Act. But the Aerosmith singer — and former “American Idol” judge — is likely to be pleased with the measure passed by the Hawaii state Senate yesterday.
The bill makes it a civil violation if people take unwanted photos or videos of others in private moments. Tyler asked a state senator to sponsor the bill after paparazzi took photos of him and his girlfriend last December — and they ended up in a national magazine.
The images caused some domestic drama for Tyler. Tyler owns a multimillion dollar home in Maui — which is part of the sponsor’s district. Opponents of the bill say it restricts freedom of the press. The Hawaii House of Representatives takes up the measure now.
