Stack-Simons Team Wins Sixth Don Beebe Golf Classic in Eight Years

For the sixth time in the last eight years, the foursome made up of Tom Simons of Chadron, his sons Scott and Bret along with Rob Stack won the championship flight of the Chadron State College Don Beebe Golf Classic at Ridgeview Country Club this past weekend.

The perennial winners shot a 62 on Saturday and a 61 on Sunday for a 123 total, one more stroke than last year’s total. They had no bogies or eagles, only pars and birdies.

The runners-up were Jordan Raben and Cory Olson of Chadron, Ryan Osmotherly of Crawford and Andrew Olson of Greeley, Colorado, with rounds of 66 and 60. Third place in the championship round went to Rick, Misty and Alpine Hickstein and Rob Wahlstrom, all of Chadron, with scores of 63 and 66.

Don Beebe, the person for whom the tournament is named, was a member of the winning team in the first fight. His team members were his brother Dan, Jay Hampton and Curt Partridge, all from Illinois.  Their total score was 134, one stroke ahead of Rob Bila, Randy Rhine and Jim and Jeremy Gardner, all of Chadron, and another stroke better than former Chadron State football players Joe Burke, J.D. Hill and Curt Moffat along with Cory Brockway of McCook shot for third place in the flight.

A scorecard playoff was needed to determine the winners of the third flight after two teams had scores of 142. Coming out on top was the foursome of Bob Zahm of Chadron, Cecil Wasserburger of Gretna and Craig Clarke and Jay Miller of Hot Springs. The team made up of Rog and Reid Rogers of Richfield, Wisconsin, Gary Benson of Lincoln and Connie Rasmussen of Chadron had to settle for second.

Third place in the flight with a 143 were CSC wrestling coach Brett Hunter and his friends Tim Clayton of Sargent, Jon Hughes of Lincoln and Aric Klemke of Chadron.
