SPECIAL NATURALIST PROGRAMS THIS WEEK AT FORT ROB, CHADRON STATE PARK

Nebraska Games and Parks LogoNebraska Game and Parks Commission staff members are leading free naturalist programs at Fort Robinson and Chadron State parks for the rest of this week. While the programs are free, a park entry permit is required.

The programs are being offered today and tomorrow at Fort Robinson. Coming up this afternoon at 3:00 at the Grabel Ponds is one on “Dip Netting,” followed by two this evening that will start outside the Suttler’s Storee at the Activities building.

At 7:00, it’s a program on birds titled Feathered Friends, while a 9:00 program has the title “Creatures of the Night: Bats.”

Fort Robinson has 4 more programs tomorrow. This first is a 9 am nature hike that begins at the Ice House Ponds on the south end of the park.

The other programs will be back at the Suttler’s Store…”Tracks, Scat, and Furs” at 11:00 am, “Knot-tying at 1:00 and “Bison” at 3:00.

The series then moves to the Chadron State Park Central Building. Friday, it’s “Turkey Talk” at 2:00 and a program on “Tomahawks” at 4:00.

Four programs will offered on Saturday…”Fire Building” at 3:00, “Outdoor Cooking” at 5:00, “Fly Fishing at 7:00, and at 9:00 a repeat of one of the programs offered earlier at Fort Robinson – “Creatures of the Night: Bats.”

Chadron State Park also hosts staffers from the Hudson-Meng Bison Bonebed Friday night at 7:00 with their program on the diet of paleolithic or stone-age man and its modern counterpart the Paleo Diet.
