Spartans do well in North Platte & Gering-Rockies drop 2 of 3 to Mets

The Alliance First National Spartans played well againist top competition in tournament play this weekend. The Spartan Seniors went 3-0 in North Platte posting 2 wins Friday night…6-1 vs the Legion Jerseys Seniors from Keaney and 5-3 vs First National of North Platte. Alliance then defeated Adams Bank & Trust of Ogallala, 8-0 on Saturday. Sundays game vs McCook was weathered out due to thunderstorms in North Platte on Saturday. The Senior Spartans improve to 10-3 on the season.

The First National Spartan Juniors went 2-1 in Gering over the weekend. Dropping a 6-5 game to B & C steel of  Gering, but came back for a 12-0 win over Wheatland, Wy Friday night. The Junior Spartans then defeated the Buckley Bombers 8-6 on Sunday.  The Alliance Juniors are now 11-6 for the season.

Both teams will be back in action Tuesday, June 11 at Sidney. Games are scheduled for 5-7:30 pm. The Juniors travel to Rapid City to face the Post 22 Bullets on Wednesday, 12:30 and 2 pm.  The Seniors return home to meet Buckley in a doubleheader Wednesday night. Todd Frazier belted a three-run homer in the first inning and added an RBI double as the Mets took the rubber match of their three-game set with the Rockies, 6-1. Noah Syndergaard  struck out seven and held Colorado to one hit over seven frames, a second-inning infield single by Nolan Arenado . Colorado didn’t get another hit until David Dahl’s RBI double with two out in the ninth. The Rockies remain in 2nd place in the NL West with a 33-31 record and are 11 games back of the LA Dodgers. The Rockies return home to face the Cubs in a 3 game series beginning Monday night. Game 1 is set for a 6:40 pm start at Coors Field.
