The last of a series of summer fundraising rummage sales to benefit the Girl Scout Memorial Garden at Chadron Community Hospital is today and tomorrow, but a last minute scheduling conflict has moved it from the Assumption Arena to the Chadron Middle School Gym.
The hours are 4-7 pm today and 8-noon tomorrow, with all proceeds going to the Memorial Garden on the northwest corner of the hospital, which this spring added a paved circular patio and planters.
The Memorial Garden was begun as part of a Girl Scout Gold Award project several girls in Troop 166, including Jazzy McLain. She says the plan was to make improvements in phases as funds allowed, so there are still plenty amenities being discussed for the garden.
“Plant flowers, put in benches. I know another group is talking about bringing out birdhouse-like things that act as mini-libraries where people drop off their books to share with each other as they visit the garden.
McLain says straight tax-deductible donations to the project through the Chadron Community Foundation are also welcome and can be made in memory of a loved one. A plaque listing donors is displayed at the hospital.
