ATLANTA (AP) — Reese Witherspoon is blaming booze for mouthing off at a police officer who had stopped her husband for allegedly driving drunk. The state trooper writes in his report that while her husband Jim Toth was being given a sobriety test, Witherspoon was hanging out the window saying she didn’t believe he was a real police offcer. He says he told her to “sit on her butt and be quiet.”

When Witherspoon got out of the car and the trooper told her to get back in, he says she told him that she was a U.S. citizen who was allowed to “stand on American ground.” He says she also asked “Do you know my name?” When he said no, she replied “You’re about to find out” and “you’re about to be on national news.” Witherspoon says she’s “deeply embarrassed.” She says it was “a scary situation” and she was “frightened” for her husband. She says she “cleary had one drink too many.”

She’s been charged with disorderly conduct while Toth is accused of driving under the influence.
