A Pine Ridge Reservation man was killed Tuesday afternoon on a ranch northwest of Chadron when he was run over by a tractor.

Dawes County Sheriff Karl Dailey says 66-year-old Daniel Grooms, a ranch hand from Porcupine, SD, was doing maintenance work on the tractor about 2 p.m. when it started and ran over him.

Grooms was able to call 911 for help, and was still conscious and breathing when rescue personnel arrived. He was transported to Chadron Community Hospital, where he later died of his injuries.
