PREMA is a supporter of programs and activities which foster the well being and economic development of the communities it serves.
The Authur Betterment Authority (ABA) is a non-profit public benefit charitable organization, recently incorporated, to raise funds for the betterment of Arthur County. The corporation is comprised of a small group of community members interested in promoting the general social welfare and development of the community of Arthur and Arthur County by operating community projects, fundraisers and related facilities to benefit all citizens.
Jayne Fraser, Secretary, and Kirk Swanson, Representative at Large, attended the PREMA’s Board of Directors meeting on June 30, 2015. They presented their request for funds to help finance a new community center. The current Veteran’s Memorial Hall has dutifully served its purpose, but it is an aging facility in need of mandatory repairs and upgrades which, when totaled, would cost nearly one fourth of a new facility. Estimates are placing the budget at approximately $450,000-$500,000 for the new location and structure.
Those involved with the ABA plan to pursue a variety of fund raising projects to achieve their monetary goal. Feeling a sense of pride and ownership, they started first within their own community and county. They next solicited local businesses, including neighboring communities, where they do business. The remaining funds will be gained through pursuing grants and additional fundraising.
PREMA’s $5,000 donation was matched by CoBank through its Sharing Success program. Sharing Success was established in 2012 to celebrate the International Year of the Cooperative. The response from CoBank’s customers was overwhelmingly positive and the program has been renewed each year since. From the program’s inception, CoBank and its customers have together provided nearly $14 million in support to charitable organizations across the nation.
