Authorities in eastern Nebraska say at least two people were fatally injured and three others hurt in a collision about 10:30 last night between an ambulance and a pickup on U.S. Highway 34 near Elmwood. Names have not been released.
Cass County Sheriff William Brueggemann (BROO’-geh-muhn) says the pickup was being sought after reports of erratic driving when it crossed into oncoming traffic and struck a Weeping Water ambulance taking a patient to a Lincoln hospital.
The sheriff says the pickup driver died at the scene while the ambulance driver died later at a Lincoln hospital. Three others in the ambulance, including the patient, were taken to hospitals but their injuries and conditions are not yet available.
