Patients Moved to Safety after Water Line Ruptures

O’NEILL, Neb. (AP) – Authorities say patients at an O’Neill nursing home had to be moved to safety after a water line ruptured, flooding one wing.

Firefighters were called to the Golden Living Center around 9 p.m. Tuesday after water began pouring from a ceiling. The 4-inch-diameter pipe that loosed the deluge is used for supplying the fire suppression system. Water had reached 3 inches deep in some spots by the time firefighters arrived.

Some patients were taken to Avera Medical Center for their safety, while others were moved to the center of the facility, where there wasn’t any flooding.

The water to the line was shut off, and firefighters helped remove water that had accumulated on the wing’s floors.

No injuries have been reported.
