There will not be an automatic recount in the Chadron City Council race, where Paris Fisher led appointed incumbent Jim Mapes by 6 votes on election night.
When the Dawes County canvass board finished deciding on about 40 provisional ballots yesterday, Fisher’s lead had grown to 11 votes…1,022 to 1,011.
Under Nebraska law, an automatic recount occurs if the difference between the candidates is less than 1% of the leading candidate’s total.
In this case, Fisher’s lead is just under 1.08%…just over the threshold for an automatic recount. Mapes could still request a recount, but would have to pay for it himself.
