LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Prison officials say an inmate has assaulted two staff members at the Nebraska State Penitentiary in Lincoln.

A news release from the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services says the assault happened Wednesday evening when an inmate threatened, then punched a staff member in the face. A second staff member who arrived to help was punched in the head.

The inmate was restrained after being pepper sprayed.

Officials say both staff members were treated at a local hospital for cuts and bruises and returned to work.
