LOS ANGELES (AP) — Adam Levine is blonder than Shakira now. Levine said on “The Voice” last night he has no explanation for why he died his hair platinum blond but it feels right. He said it’s not for a movie role. He says the only thing that almost prevented him from doing it was he knew Blake Shelton would have a field day. Shelton’s response to Levine: “C’mon, Miley….”
”THE VOICE” TOP EIGHT PERFORM
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Adam Levine says no one has ever heard Lil Wayne the way “The Voice” contestant Christina Grimmie did it last night. She did a soaring ballad version of “How To Love.” Cat Perkins on Team Adam also tried something different by doing a metal version of “Get Lucky.” Levine’s third team member, Delvin Choice, broke down in tears after doing “I Believe I Can Fly.” After hearing Sisaundra Lewis sing “River Deep, Mountain High,” Shakira said if Lewis opened a school, all four coaches would enroll. Blake Shelton told Josh Kaufman his performance of “I Can’t Make You Love Me” had magic. Shakira said Kristen Merlin’s singing was “transcendent” and Audra McLaughlin’s singing was “effortless.” Shakira told Jake Worthington he was so good he had her air-drumming. Three contestants will be eliminated tonight.
NICKI MINAJ TO PERFORM AT ROOTS’ ANNUAL JULY 4TH JAM
NEW YORK (AP) — Nicki Minaj will be in the mix when The Roots launch this year’s Fourth of July Jam in Philadelphia. Minaj will join the Roots for the annual free event on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter says other acts on the show will include Ed Sheeran, Jennifer Hudson and Ariana Grande. The Roots will be the house band for the event, which will air live on VH1 and Palladia — and be streamed online on VH1.com.
COLDPLAY DEDICATES SONG TO MICK JAGGER
NEW YORK (AP) — Coldplay dedicated one of its songs to Mick Jagger at a concert in New York City. Before performing “Fix You” last night, Chris Martin said the song about recovery was for the Rolling Stones frontman. Jagger’s longtime girlfriend, fashion designer L’Wren Scott committed suicide back in March. A memorial was held for her last week in New York.
KURT COBAIN BENCHES UP FOR SALE
ABERDEEN, Wash. (AP) — Two benches that became an unofficial memorial to Kurt Cobain after his suicide 20 years ago are going up for sale. The benches were in a Seattle park near Cobain’s home — and fans covered the slats with messages that were written or carved into the wood. KXRO reports the bench slats in Viretta Park were replaced with new wood in 2008 — but the old ones were salvaged. The originals were attached to new frames and will be put up for bids at a Tacoma, Washington auction house.
ALAN WHITE OF YES HANGS ONTO HIS DRUMS
SEATTLE (AP) — Yes drummer Alan White has every set of drums he’s ever used professionally. White says he has the Ludwig silver sparkle drum kit he used when he was barely in his 20s and asked to perform on John Lennon’s “Imagine” and George Harrison’s “All Things Must Past” albums. White says he has a storage unit that’s just full of drums, because he kept every set he used on every Yes tour. He says they’re all worth keeping and sometimes he’ll loan them out to places that want to display them. His drum kit from the Yes “90125” album is on display in a drum store. Yes will release a new album called “Heaven and Earth” on July 8 and start a tour that day in Boston.
BROKEN BELLS OFFER 3D PRINTER BLUEPRINTS
UNDATED (AP) — Broken Bells are giving fans something to play with, if those fans have access to a 3D printer. The band is giving away free blueprints for two collectibles. One is for the pink orb that was on the band’s debut album. The other is the space girl from the “After the Disco” short film. This isn’t the only way Broken Bells are forward-thinking. On their last tour, they donated a dollar from every ticket sold to the B612 Foundation, which is developing a system to protect Earth from asteroids.
LILY ALLEN EXPLAINS “SHEEZUS” TITLE
NEW YORK (AP) — Lily Allen isn’t making fun of Kanye West by calling her new album “Sheezus.” It’s an ode to him. Allen tells W magazine she loves how West will say whatever he wants and he says it with passion. She says if that makes him “Yeezus,” then she wants to be “Sheezus.” Her “Sheezus” album comes out today.
ANGIE STONE AND LAILA ALI DO “CELEBRITY WIFE SWAP”
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Singer Angie Stone and former professional boxer Laila Ali will find out how the other one lives. They are featured on “Celebrity Wife Swap” on ABC tonight. Ali prefers a strict schedule for her family and cooks healthy meals, while Stone likes to wing it with the schedule and loves cooking soul food with lots of calories. Both are determined to show the other family a different way to live.
JENNIFER LOPEZ WILL GET BILLBOARD’S ICON AWARD
SANTA MONICA, Calif. (AP) — Jennifer Lopez will get a special honor at the Billboard Music Awards. Lopez will be given the Icon Award for her contribution to popular music. The Billboard Music Awards will be May 18 in Las Vegas and air live on ABC.
