Mexican Drug Cartel Figure Arrested in Nebraska

SEWARD, Neb. (AP) — Authorities say a man with ties to an infamous Mexican drug cartel has been arrested in Nebraska.

The Seward County sheriff’s office says 39-year-old Jesus Ramon Buena-Peregina was arrested Wednesday during a traffic stop on Interstate 80. The sheriff’s office says he had been a fugitive for four years after being convicted of possession and distribution of cocaine.

According to the sheriff’s office, Buena-Peregina is a member of the Mexican-based Sinaloa drug cartel, a major supplier of drugs to the United States.

Deputies say they found a fake passport and IDs on Buena-Peregrina. They took him and his driver, 27-year-old Vanessa E. Lopez-Pena, into custody, then notified federal authorities.

Online court records did not list an attorney for Buena-Peregina or Lopez-Pena.
