Alliance – The Alliance City Council is pleased to announce the receipt of a $30,000 memorial contribution made to the Alliance Parks Foundation in memory of Robert E. Knight.  The Foundation in partnership with the City of Alliance, will utilize the funds to enhance the Central Park Fountain with upgraded, programmable LED lights.
Mr. Knight was an Alliance native with fond memories of the fountain as a child.  He also recognized and appreciated the sense of community involvement during the “Coins for the Fountain” project.  Mrs. Eva Knight honored her late husband’s wishes to establish a memorial for the Central Park Fountain in his name.  After contacting City of Alliance Finance Director Randy Waggener and discussing the budgetary constraints for the upgrade to the fountain, she proceeded in the hope the new lights could be installed for the 2017 season.
“The new LED lights will not only provide a full spectrum of color, but will reduce the cost of operation,” said Mr. Waggener.  Cultural and Leisure Services Director Shana Brown extended her thanks to Eva Knight and the Alliance Parks Foundation for their roles in the project.  “Since 1935, Central Park Fountain has been a source of pride, pleasure, tranquility and inspiration.  The generous donation made by Mrs. Knight in memory of Robert E. Knight will allow one of our community’s most valuable landmarks to continue to delight residents and visitors to Alliance,” said Mrs. Brown.
